X (formerly Twitter) can hide posts, photos, and videos that it considers sensitive. If you want to view that content, you usually need to change a few privacy and safety settings in your account and sometimes in search results as well.

This guide shows how to enable sensitive content on X, what to do if the option is missing, and why some posts may still stay hidden even after you change the settings.

How to View Sensitive Content on X (Twitter)

Turn On Sensitive Content in X on the Web

The easiest way to change this setting is usually from the web version of X. Some account options are easier to access there than in the mobile app.

  1. Sign in to your X account in a browser.
  2. Open the menu and go to Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Privacy and safety.
  4. Open Content you see.
  5. Turn on the option for Display media that may contain sensitive content.

If you also want sensitive posts to appear more often in search results, look for the search settings in the same area and make sure filtering is not hiding the content you want to see.

Check Your Search Settings Too

Even if media viewing is enabled, X may still filter certain results from search. That means you might be able to open a direct post but still not find similar posts through search.

  1. Go back to Settings and privacy.
  2. Open Privacy and safety, then Content you see.
  3. Look for search or explore-related filtering options.
  4. Disable any setting that hides potentially sensitive content from search results if available.
Key Fact X separates media display settings from search filtering, so changing one does not always change the other.

Why You May Not See the Option

If the sensitive content setting is missing, greyed out, or does not seem to work, a few common account limits may be involved.

Quick Tip If you cannot find the setting in the app, try the desktop or mobile browser version of X instead of the app.

How to Change It on iPhone or Android

The X app may not always expose every privacy option in the same way as the browser version. If you use the app, look in the same general privacy and content menus, but be prepared to finish the change in a browser if needed.

  1. Open the X app and tap your profile icon or menu button.
  2. Go to Settings and privacy.
  3. Open Privacy and safety.
  4. Find Content you see or a similar media settings menu.
  5. Enable the option to show sensitive media if it is available.
Note Menu names can change slightly depending on your app version and device.

If Sensitive Posts Still Stay Hidden

If you already turned the setting on but some content still does not appear, the issue may not be your account setting at all.

Warning Be careful when changing browser filters, family safety tools, or network-level content blocks. Those settings can affect more than just X.

What Sensitive Content Means on X

On X, sensitive content usually refers to media or posts that may include graphic, adult, or otherwise potentially disturbing material. The label does not always mean the content is illegal or against the rules, but it is marked so users can choose whether to view it.

Why It Matters Knowing how X labels sensitive media helps you understand why some posts are hidden, blurred, or removed from search results even when the account itself is public.

A Quick Way to Confirm the Setting Worked

  1. Search for a topic or account that frequently posts labeled media.
  2. Open the media preview.
  3. If the image or video is no longer blurred or blocked, the setting is working.
  4. If it still appears hidden, sign out and back in, then check the setting again from a browser.

When to Use the Web Version

Use the web version of X if you want the clearest view of all privacy and content settings, especially if the app keeps sending you in circles or hiding the option altogether.

Best For Users who want the most complete access to X privacy and content controls.

One More Thing to Keep in Mind

Changing this setting only affects what your account can see. It does not change how other people view your posts, and it does not remove X’s own content labels from media that the platform has marked as sensitive.
