If you no longer use Epic Games Launcher, you can remove it from Windows just like any other app. If you also want to delete the games it installed, there are a few extra steps to make sure the files are actually removed and the space is recovered.

This guide shows how to uninstall the launcher itself, remove individual Epic Games titles, and clean up leftover folders if you want a more complete uninstall.

Removing Epic Games Launcher and Your Installed Epic Games

Uninstall Epic Games Launcher from Windows

The launcher is installed as a normal Windows application, so the easiest way to remove it is through Apps & features or Installed apps.

  1. Open Start and select Settings.
  2. Go to Apps, then open Installed apps or Apps & features.
  3. Find Epic Games Launcher in the list.
  4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Confirm the removal when Windows asks.

If the launcher is currently running, close it first. You may also want to exit it from the system tray so the uninstaller can remove its files without anything still using them.

Quick Tip If Windows says the launcher is still open, check the hidden tray icons near the clock and fully quit Epic Games Launcher before trying again.

Uninstall a Game Installed Through Epic Games Launcher

You can remove most Epic games from inside the launcher itself. This is usually the cleanest way to uninstall a game because the launcher knows where the files are stored.

  1. Open Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Go to your Library.
  3. Find the game you want to remove.
  4. Click the three dots or the game’s menu button.
  5. Choose Uninstall and confirm.

After the uninstall finishes, the game’s main files should be removed from the install location. If you reinstall later, the launcher may offer to download the game again from scratch.

Key Fact Uninstalling the Epic Games Launcher does not always remove every installed game automatically. If you want the games gone too, remove them separately before deleting the launcher.

Delete Leftover Game Files Manually

Sometimes a game leaves behind folders, saved settings, or cached files even after uninstalling. These leftovers are usually small, but they can still take up disk space or keep old settings around.

  1. Check the folder where the game was installed and delete any remaining game folder if it is still there.
  2. Look in Documents, AppData, or Saved Games for folders related to the title if you want to remove personal settings or local data.
  3. Empty the Recycle Bin after you are sure you do not need anything inside.
Warning Be careful when deleting folders in AppData or Documents. Some games store saves, screenshots, or configuration files there, and removing the wrong folder can erase data you may want to keep.
Note If you want to keep your game progress, check whether the title uses cloud saves before deleting any local data. Cloud sync does not protect every file in every game.

Remove Epic Games Launcher Leftovers

Even after uninstalling the launcher, a few folders may remain behind. Removing them is optional, but it can help if you want a completely clean uninstall.

  1. Open File Explorer and enable hidden items if needed.
  2. Check common locations such as Program Files, Program Files (x86), and AppData for Epic-related folders.
  3. Delete leftover Epic Games Launcher folders only if you are sure the launcher is already uninstalled.
  4. Clear the Recycle Bin when finished.

You may also see shortcuts on the desktop or in the Start menu. Those can be removed manually if Windows does not clear them automatically.

If a Game Still Shows Up After Uninstalling

Sometimes the launcher still lists a game even after it has been removed, especially if files were deleted manually or the uninstall was interrupted.

Why It Matters Using the launcher’s uninstall option first helps prevent broken entries, partial deletions, and leftover files that can happen when you delete a game folder by hand.

What to Keep Before You Uninstall

Before removing the launcher or any games, it is worth checking whether you want to keep save files, screenshots, mods, or custom settings. These are often stored separately from the main game install folder.

Quick Tip If you are unsure whether something is important, copy the folder to another location before deleting it. That is safer than assuming it is disposable.

What This Removes and What It Does Not

Uninstalling the launcher removes Epic Games Launcher itself, but it does not automatically cancel purchases or delete your Epic account. Your account and library remain available unless you remove them separately through Epic’s account settings.

Likewise, removing a game deletes the local installation from your PC, but it does not erase your ownership of the game. You can download it again later if it is still in your library.

Best Way to Fully Clean Up Epic Games Software

If your goal is just to reclaim space, uninstall the games you no longer want and then remove the launcher. If your goal is a thorough cleanup, also check for leftover folders, shortcuts, and local save data you do not need anymore.

Best For Users who want to free disk space, remove unused game libraries, or perform a clean Windows uninstall of Epic software.
