Outlook can display a built-in holiday calendar so you can keep track of public holidays without entering each date manually. The steps are simple, but they vary a little depending on whether you use Outlook on Windows, Outlook on the web, or the new Outlook app.

This guide shows how to add holidays to your Outlook calendar, how to check that they were imported correctly, and how to remove them if you no longer want them showing up.

Add Holidays to Your Outlook Calendar

Add Holidays in Outlook on Windows

  1. Open Outlook on your Windows PC.
  2. Go to File, then select Options.
  3. In the Outlook Options window, choose Calendar.
  4. Under Calendar options, click Add Holidays.
  5. Select the country or region whose holidays you want to add.
  6. Click OK to import the holiday dates into your calendar.
  7. If prompted, confirm that you want to add the holidays to your calendar folders.

Outlook adds the selected holiday calendar as an overlay in your main calendar view. You should see the holidays listed alongside your other appointments after the import finishes.

Key Fact Adding holidays in Outlook usually creates calendar entries for the selected country or region, not a separate subscription you manage elsewhere.

Add Holidays in the New Outlook or Outlook on the Web

  1. Open Outlook in your browser or switch to the new Outlook app.
  2. Go to Calendar.
  3. Look for an option such as Add calendar or Browse calendars.
  4. Choose Holidays from the available calendar list.
  5. Select the country or region you want.
  6. Save or add the calendar so it appears in your calendar list.
Note Menu names can vary slightly between Outlook versions, but the holidays option is usually found in the calendar list or add-calendar menu.

Check That the Holidays Were Added

Quick Tip If you do not see holidays right away, switch to a different calendar view and then back again to refresh the display.

Remove Holidays from Outlook

  1. In Outlook on Windows, open File, then Options, then Calendar, and choose Add Holidays again.
  2. If Outlook lists the already-added holidays, remove them from your calendar folders instead of re-importing the same set.
  3. In Outlook on the web or new Outlook, open the calendar list and uncheck or remove the Holidays calendar.
  4. If needed, delete individual holiday entries from your calendar after they have been added.
Warning If you delete holiday entries manually, you may need to remove each one separately. In Outlook for Windows, re-importing the same holidays can sometimes create duplicates if the calendar was not cleared first.

Common Problems and Fixes

Why It Matters Adding the right holiday calendar helps you avoid scheduling meetings on public holidays and makes it easier to plan around office closures, travel dates, and school breaks.

Which Outlook Version Are You Using?

If the instructions do not match what you see, the most important thing is to identify which Outlook app you have. Classic Outlook for Windows uses the File menu and desktop options, while the new Outlook and Outlook on the web rely more on the calendar list and add-calendar menus.

Note If you are using a work or school account, your organization may also control which calendars you can add or see.
